How to feel the benefits of the sun while protecting your skin?

It can never be said enough - protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun is important!

But that doesn’t mean avoiding it like the plague and holing yourself up like a vampire at the first sign of it!

While the sun definitely has its downsides, it is still a primordial factor in our health and well-being.

Find out how to protect your skin from the sun naturally, enjoy its benefits safely and make the most of this very natural relationship!

THE BENEFITS OF THE SUN ARE DEFINITELY NOT TO BE MISSED

1) VITAMIN D

Ultraviolet radiation is necessary for the synthesis of vitamin D, which enables the body to absorb calcium into the bones. This is particularly important both for elderly people and for children growing up.
UV radiation absorbed by the skin can play a positive role, but just a few minutes a day are enough!

2) MORALE BOOSTER

The sun is also good for your morale. But it is the visible light received by our eyes, not the UV radiation absorbed by our skin, that enables us to fend off seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Just a few minutes’ exposure a day is enough for a boost to your morale!

3) UV THERAPY

Exposure to UV radiation can be prescribed by doctors to treat certain cutaneous diseases.
But you need to be careful, as this type of treatment is specific to the patient.

4) A FEELING OF WELL-BEING

Many people prefer their skin to have a bit of a tan than when it is pale in winter.
Tanning gives us a healthy glow and hides those nasty little flaws. And let’s not kid ourselves, we all know that a bit of colour in our fast and furious day to day lives does us a world of good!

WHAT TO AVOID:

Over-exposure of course! This can cause short-term and long-term problems...
To get the best from those lovely rays while protecting your skin, we have come across a little homemade sun cream recipe that we have (successfully) tested and would like to share with you Smile

RECIPE FOR HOMEMADE SUN PROTECTION:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 12 cl of sweet almond oil or olive oil
  • 6 cl of coconut oil
  • 15 g of beeswax
  • 2 soup spoons of zinc oxide (available for next to nothing in a chemist’s) for SPF 15. Use a powder without nano-particles, as these cannot be absorbed by the skin. Be careful not to breathe in the powder - wear a mask! Increase the amount of zinc oxide to increase the solar protection factor.

OPTIONAL: ALL OF THESE INGREDIENTS ARE BENEFICIAL FOR THE BEAUTY OF THE SKIN AND CREATE A WONDERFULLY SWEET AROMA Smile

  • 1 teaspoon of raspberry pip oil
  • 1 teaspoon of carrot seed oil
  • 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil
  • 2 teaspoons of shea butter
  • non-photo-sensitive essential oils, vanilla extract or other to perfume your cream.

METHOD:

  1. Prepare a glass jar (to hold 50 cl).
  2. Mix together all the ingredients (except the zinc oxide).
  3. Heat the jar in a pan filled with water, over a medium heat.
  4. As the water heats up, the ingredients will start to blend together.
  5. Shake the jar from time to time to mix the ingredients thoroughly.
  6. Once all the ingredients have melted, add the zinc oxide and stir - wear your mask!
  7. Pour the final mixture into a pot to store your natural sun cream for 6 months.

SOME ADDITIONAL TIPS FOR GOOD SUN PROTECTION:

  • Drink plenty of water to stay properly hydrated.
  • Don’t go out in the sun between midday and 4pm.
  • Wear a hat and sunglasses. Don’t forget that the eyes are fragile too - even children’s.
  • Reapply your cream every 2 hours and after each swim.
  • Choose a sun protection factor that suits your skin type.
  • Contrary to received ideas, you don’t need to put ice cubes on your burns. Use a yoghurt-based application for 20 minutes, for example.
